Phased Array I -16hr Hands on Training

This 16-hour Phased Array (PAUT I) Hands on course delivers the real-world, hands-on skills technicians need to begin performing phased array inspections with confidence. Students gain practical experience with basic instrument familiarization, including probe selection, system setup, and essential controls, while learning how phased array differs from conventional UT and how proper setup impacts inspection results in the field. Through guided exercises, students create and apply basic scan plan setups, understand common phased array screen presentations, and perform straight-beam scanning over corroded components as well as basic weld inspection setups. The course also covers saving and reviewing inspection data and performing basic length sizing. Whether you completed online PAUT training without meaningful hands-on experience or are refreshing foundational skills, this course bridges the gap between classroom theory and field application—providing practical experience and job-ready capability in PAUT Level I.

In this course, we cover how to:

• •Become more familiar with the Omni X-3
• •Explain code requirements
• •Calibrate both Straight beam and Angle beam
• •Set up string encoders
• •Understand various screen presentations
• •Explain both straight beam and angle beam set ups
• •create scan plans and the importance of them
• •create and save both calibrations and scans
• •Perform basic length sizing

Upon completing this course, students will be able to:

• •Confidently operate and navigate the OmniScan X3, including system menus, probe selection, and essential instrument functions used in daily phased array inspections
• •Understand and explain applicable code and procedure requirements, and how they influence scan setup, calibration, and evaluation
• •Perform and verify straight-beam and angle-beam calibrations, ensuring system accuracy and repeatable inspection results
• •Set up and correctly use string encoders to collect encoded data and produce reliable, traceable scan results
• •Interpret multiple phased array screen presentations (A-scan, S-scan, linear views) and understand how each supports detection and evaluation
• •Correctly configure and explain straight-beam and angle-beam inspection setups, including probe positioning and coverage considerations
• •Create effective scan plans and understand their importance in achieving proper coverage, consistency, and code compliance
• •Create, save, and manage calibration files and inspection scans for review, reporting, and traceability
• •Perform basic length sizing of indications using phased array data to support evaluation and documentation

The course includes 16 hours of hands-on training. Upon successful completion, participants will receive 16 total hours of accredited classroom training and a Classroom Certificate, with knowledge assessed through an exam.
