UT Thickness Testing -8hr Hands on Training

This 8-hour Ultrasonic Thickness Testing (UTT) course delivers the real-world, confidence-building skills inspectors need in the field. You’ll gain detailed, hands-on experience with ultrasonic thickness gauges—learning how each setting works, how it affects results, and how to properly set up equipment for accurate measurements. Through practical exercises, you’ll learn to interpret signals and clearly identify wall-loss conditions such as erosion, corrosion, and pitting, as well as recognize mid-wall indications including laminations and inclusions. The course also covers grid creation, B-scan operation, effective use of gage view, and proper data documentation and report completion. Whether you’ve taken online training without getting meaningful hands-on time, or it’s been a while since you last used a thickness gauge, this course closes the gap between theory and application—ensuring you leave with skills you can use on the job.

In this Hands-on Course, we cover how to:

Understand the various settings of the units Calibrate different probe types (Single, Dual, and Pencil Type) Interpret various signals from different damage mechanisms

Upon completing this course, students will be able to:

• •Understand the various interface modes and when to use them (First backwall, Echo to Echo, Temperature Compensation)
• •Understand the differences in signal characteristics between wall loss and inherent discontinuities
• •Perform and store Grid files in order to speed up data acquisition
• •Transfer files using the Gageview interface and accurately generate reports.

The course includes 8 hours of hands-on training. Upon successful completion, participants will receive 8 total hours of accredited classroom training and a Classroom Certificate, with knowledge assessed through an exam.
